Why we are Obsessed with Longevity
The Fitness Industry and the Wellness Industry are in more harmony than ever before, and with this blending of worlds one word seems to have risen to the surface - Longevity. This beautiful world that has brought balance to the athlete and science to naturopathic medicine.
Longevity is defined as long life or long age, but this only scratches the surface. The Fitness Industry uses Longevity in reference to one’s movement by using your workout routine to fortify and create resilience in your muscles, joints, and bones. Being able to move through life pain free, doing all that you love for as long as you can. The Wellness Industry piggybacks off of the Fitness Industries ideas of Longevity and takes it a step further adding the idea of anti-aging practices to slow cognitive, hormonal, and cellular decline.
“Lasting Vitality - the Ultimate Fountain of Youth”
The blending of the two boasts all of the benefits above and more - lasting vitality. The ultimate fountain of youth, if you will. Painting a lovely picture of what one can only hope to achieve in their life. The opposing view creates a narrative that with time our bodies will just break down and there is nothing one can do, but enjoy our 20’s and succumb to the inevitable decline once we hit the big 3-0.
I don’t know about you but this sounds incredibly bleak, boring, and may I add… lazy? Luckily, the Health, Fitness, and Wellness Experts do not subscribe to this nihilistic- like point of view. We are regaining control of our own lasting vitality by getting back to the basics. Managing our stress, our sleep, and our recovery. Making the active decision to fuel our bodies with nutrient dense foods. Moving in a way that isn’t punishment, but supplemental. Taking mental health seriously instead of shamefully hiding from it. And bravely fighting auto-immunity and disease with biohacking lifestyle changes for a healthier tomorrow.
